Jr. Rebels Camp offers a diverse curriculum for children ages 5 to 12. The culmination of various activities will allow campers to challenge themselves and embrace new experiences.

Kick off the semester with a refreshing day hike in Mount Charleston! Escape the desert heat and ascend into the cool, alpine beauty of Mt. Charleston with Outdoor Adventures on our Cathedral Rock expedition. This rewarding 2.8-mile round-trip journey winds through towering Ponderosa pines and shimmering aspen groves, offering a steady climb that leads to one of the most iconic overlooks in southern Nevada. As we reach the summit of this massive limestone outcropping, you will be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of the Echo Cliffs, Kyle Canyon, and the majestic 11,916-foot Charleston Peak. Enjoy an adventure-filled weekend in the fresh mountain air of Big Bear, California! This three-day getaway is the perfect mix of hiking, paddling, and connecting with nature, all with cozy campsite base at Serrano Campground. We'll start with a scenic drive to Big Bear, where we'll set up camp and enjoy a peaceful evening with dinner, s'mores, and mountain views. The next day, we'll kike the beautiful Castle Rock Trail, a 2.7 mile out and back route with stunning lake and forest views. Then, we'll head to one of Big Bear's lakefront spots for a picnic lunch, paddleboarding, swimming, and time to soak up the sun. On our final day, we'll break down camp and visit the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, where you'll get the chance to see rescued and rehabilitated wildlife up close. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch at the zoo before heading back to UNLV, refreshed and recharged from a weekend in the mountains.

Learn how to lead climb and belay with Outdoor Adventures! Join us on the last Thursday of each month for a 3-hour crash course on lead climbing. This course will cover clipping, climbing, and belaying at our rock wall.

Ready to try something new? Join us for a beginner-friendly rock-climbing adventure that is close to home, designed for those with little to no climbing experience. Learn fundamental climbing techniques, safety skills, and equipment use while climbing on real rock under the guidance of experienced instructors. Join Outdoor Adventures as we explore the Arizona Hot Springs on a rewarding 6-mile round-trip hike through unique desert terrain and a breathtaking canyon. Our journey leads to a series of naturally heated hot springs tucked away along the scenic Colorado River, where you'll have the chance to relax and soak while taking in the surrounding canyon views. This moderately challenging hike is perfect for those looking to experience a combination of adventure and relaxation in the heart of the Mojave Desert. The American Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are designed to teach you not only the basics in water safety but also the proper protocol when dealing with any emergencies around water. The Red Cross blends both traditional lecture style and crucial hands-on training in order to teach you effective techniques to deliver prompt care to those in need. After successful completion of the course, participants will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid.

This is a blended course; an online component will be issued to you at least 5 days before the course. If you do not receive this email at least five days before the course, please contact srwc.aquatics@unlv.edu.

Prerequisites for the course must be successfully demonstrated on the first day of class. The prerequisites for this course are:
Part 1:
150-yard swim on front (no back or side stroke)
Immediate transition to hands-free 2-minute tread
Immediate transition to 50-yard swim on front ( no back or side stroke)
for a total of 200 yards, with a 2-minute tread between the 150 & final 50 yards.
Part 2:
In under 1 minute and 40 seconds:
Enter the water feet first
Swim on front 15-25 yards
Surface dive (head or feet first) to 9ft depth
Retrieve a 10-pound brick
Return to the surface
With both hands on the brick, and keeping the face above the water, kick on back to the starting point
Exit the water without a ladder

Note: No refunds will be given to participants once the first day of class has begun. This is a multiple-day course. Participants must attend the entire course to qualify for certification.
