Welcome Week Hike: Fletcher Canyon - 260829

Big Bear Multisport Weekend - 260911

Enjoy an adventure-filled weekend in the fresh mountain air of Big Bear, California! This three-day getaway is the perfect mix of hiking, paddling, and connecting with nature, all with cozy campsite base at Serrano Campground. We'll start with a scenic drive to Big Bear, where we'll set up camp and enjoy a peaceful evening with dinner, s'mores, and mountain views. The next day, we'll kike the beautiful Castle Rock Trail, a 2.7 mile out and back route with stunning lake and forest views. Then, we'll head to one of Big Bear's lakefront spots for a picnic lunch, paddleboarding, swimming, and time to soak up the sun. On our final day, we'll break down camp and visit the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, where you'll get the chance to see rescued and rehabilitated wildlife up close. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch at the zoo before heading back to UNLV, refreshed and recharged from a weekend in the mountains.


Cost: $250 for SRWC Member & UNLV Students, $275 for non-members/community

American Red Cross Certification Courses - 27ARC

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding classes are designed to teach you not only the basics in water safety but also the proper protocol when dealing with any emergencies around water. The Red Cross blends both traditional lecture style and crucial hands-on training in order to teach you effective techniques to deliver prompt care to those in need. After successful completion of the course, participants will be certified in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid.

This is a blended course; an online component will be issued to you at least 5 days before the course. If you do not receive this email at least five days before the course, please contact srwc.aquatics@unlv.edu.

Prerequisites for the course must be successfully demonstrated on the first day of class. The prerequisites for this course are:
Part 1:
150-yard swim on front (no back or side stroke)
Immediate transition to hands-free 2-minute tread
Immediate transition to 50-yard swim on front ( no back or side stroke)
for a total of 200 yards, with a 2-minute tread between the 150 & final 50 yards.
Part 2:
In under 1 minute and 40 seconds:
Enter the water feet first
Swim on front 15-25 yards
Surface dive (head or feet first) to 9ft depth
Retrieve a 10-pound brick
Return to the surface
With both hands on the brick, and keeping the face above the water, kick on back to the starting point
Exit the water without a ladder

Class schedule:
August 7: 11:00 am-6:00 pm
August 8: 10:00 am-6:00 pm
August 9: 10:00 am-6:00 pm

Note: No refunds will be given to participants once the first day of class has begun. This is a multiple-day course. Participants must attend the entire course to qualify for certification.
